Lesson four

Reconnect Before You Redirect

After a full day apart, many children need a clear signal that the relationship is still there.

They may not ask for this directly. They may ask through following you from room to room, interrupting, rough play, complaining, repeated requests, sibling conflict, or refusing to begin the next task.

Before moving into correction, homework, dinner, or bedtime, it may help to create one small point of reunion.

Choose the path that matches your child's energy

If your child needs movement

Tap the ones that tend to work for your child.

Movement can help release what words cannot reach yet.

Choose one ritual

What could I realistically offer most days, even when I am tired?

One important reminder

Connection is not a reward for good behavior. It is part of what helps children return to cooperation after separation, stress, and overwhelm.

You can reconnect and still hold limits. You can offer warmth and still ask for the backpack to be put away.

Connection does not remove your leadership. It strengthens the relationship that makes your leadership easier to receive.
